Foods Featuring Low Calories! | Fish Information - Cyrus Bond17's ...

Negative calorie foods: Are there really any negative calorie foods? To tell the truth, NO there isn?t! Calorie?s are little molecules of heat and as such they cannot be negative. When we say negative calorie foods what we actually mean is items of food we can intake and digest that are able to use more calories than they contain.

Let?s talk water. In actual fact lets chat about Ice Cold Water!

Water has no calories at all and is absolutely a negative calorie food (That is if you call water a type of food?) given that once we drink the ice cold water our body is working to heat up the cold water up to blood temperature, because of this our body is expanding energy and burning up calories.

You know there are a ton of food stuffs available for purchase but not many of those are what we probably would call negative calorie foods. Pretty much all of the food products on the list at the bottom of this page are what we might call negative calorie foods, whilst this actually is incorrect for the reason that they do not in all honesty burn up a whole lot more unhealthy calories than they poses. Of course, when you look at the tiny extent of calories remaining after consuming something like a stick of celery for example, are easily burnt away by doing something as simple as scratching your forehead then you start to have an understanding of precisely why they hold value in a diet program. I hope you now fully grasp what we imply when we talk about negative calorie foods?

Anorexics just really love negative calorie foods, understanding that ought to set your alarm belles ringing. Despite the fact that negative calorie foods are incredibly good in small amounts they simply cannot satisfy all your nutritional necessities in a positive and healthy and balanced way. If you depend upon on just consuming these kinds of foods the obvious outcome will likely be starvation. This is because once all the unwanted calories and fats are removed it would have to turn it?s attentions to the muscle mass of your physique. This behavior would very rapidly turn into debility and wasting of your body as seen in the anorexia illness.

Fasting or detoxing the body is a better method to utilize these food stuffs. By utilising them in this manner it is a good deal more heart-healthy for yourself. By way of example. For those who have ingested a tad bit more than you expected to over the Christmas holidays you can actually choose to detox your body for one to three days by only eating these kinds of negative calorie food products.

So long as you are fairly healthy and fit enough to carry this out it is a terrific strategy to throw out the not so good factors from your system. However I fervently advise you that you get medical assistance preceding to endeavoring on this scheme.

Here are a several suggestions to take into consideration if you ever make the decision to execute a negative calorie detox. Under no circumstances eat considerable sums of any one form of food. Fruit?s by way of example include acids that can probably destroy the abdominal lining if eaten to excess. Some others include the likelihood to over facilitate the liver. Typically put together the foods the best way you possibly can and use them in small but effective proportions for the most desirable success.

Eliminate eating quite frequently. This approach will just make you feel sick and bloated. Bear in mind that this is only a short-term detox and you ought to be capable to get through it with no need of honestly feeling as if you?re that hungry.

If you intend to have 5 or 6 salad meals a day this should help you feel substantially less hungry that will help you through the mental element of things. Try to eat the foods in their inherent state (raw), foods for instance , beets and carrots will want to be grated, this will help make them a lot more desirable and satisfying.

Furthermore bear in mind that by detoxing you could possibly suffer some less than enjoyable symptoms. Things something like irritability, headaches, depression and tiredness. If symptoms are intense, stop the detox and see your doctor. The moment your detox has finished make a slow return to proper eating.

As promised above, here is the list of negative calorie groceries.

Chelsea and Real Madrid won first-leg matches on the road Tuesday night, putting them in good position to advance to the Champions League semifinals.

Salomon Kalou tapped in Fernando Torres' cross in the 75th minute, giving Chelsea a 1-0 win over Benfica in Lisbon, Portugal, the first road win for the Blues in the competition this season.

"It's terrific, you couldn't have hoped for a better result," interim Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said. "Nothing is over - there is still another 90 minutes to play - but we will have home advantage."

In Cyprus, Karim Benzema scored in the 74th minute with a diving header, Kaka doubled the lead in the 82nd and Benzema got another goal in the 89th to give nine-time champion Madrid a 3-0 win at APOEL Nicosia, the first Cypriot team to reach the quarterfinals.

"What they've done, having reached this far is fantastic," Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said. "We needed to play to the maximum of our ability to win. They were great on defense, and they deserve our respect."

Second legs of the total-goals series will be played April 4.

In first-leg games Wednesday night, defending champion Barcelona is at AC Milan and Marseille is home against Bayern Munich.

Ryan Nelsen, Gareth Bale and Louis Saha scored in the final 20 minutes to lead Tottenham over Bolton 3-1 in an FA Cup quarterfinal played 10 days after the original match was abandoned because of Fabrice Muamba's on-field cardiac arrest.

White Hart Lane in north London, which went quiet when Muamba collapsed just before halftime on March 17, was filled with a minute's applause from both sets of fans to honor of Muamba. The Bolton midfielder's heart stopped beating on its own for 78 minutes. He was revived by medics and is making encouraging progress in a hospital.

Nelsen scored on a header in the 74th minute off Rafael van der Vaart's cross and Bale made it 2-0 when he ran onto Jermain Defoe's pass during a counterattack in the 77th. Kevin Davies cut the gap in the 90th, and Luis Saha scored the final goal in the fourth minute of injury time.

In a quarterfinal replay, Everton won 2-0 at Sunderland on Nikica Jelavic's 24th-minute goal and an own goal by David Vaughan in the 57th.

In the semifinals at Wembley, Everton plays Liverpool on April 14, with Spurs meeting Chelsea the following day.

"Two great semifinals: all-London derby and Merseyside derby," Spurs coach Harry Redknapp said. "A fantastic weekend to look forward to."

Acer Iconia Tab A510 preorders start today at $449

Acer Iconia Tab A510

Acer this morning announced that the new 10.1-inch ?Iconia Tab A510 (we're all friends here, let's just call it the A510) is now available for preorder for for $449. As you'll recall from our first look at CES back in January, the A510 is packing NVIDIA's Tegra 3 quad-core (OK, its 4-PLUS-1) system on a chip, with the extra fifth core for low-power tasks. It's got a 1280x800 resolution (at a 16:10 aspect ratio), which is looking a bit dated next to its big brother, the A700, to say nothing of the new iPad.

The A510, as it should, comes with Android 4.0 already on board, as well as with such productivity apps as Polaris Office 3.5, and Acer's own Acer Print. Other specs of note:

  • HDMI out
  • USB 2.0 port
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • microSD card
  • Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • 5MP rear camera, 1MP front-facing camera

The A510 also is an Olympic Games Tablet Edition (that should fit nicely with Acer's new Acer Ring quick-launcher that we first saw in the A200). It's got the Acer and Olympic logos printed on the soft-touch finish, which comes in either silver or black.

(AP) ? The Army inspector general is conducting a system-wide review of mental health facilities to determine whether psychiatrists overturned diagnoses of post-traumatic stress disorder to save money, a move that comes as the case of a U.S. soldier suspected of killing 16 Afghan civilians has brought fresh attention to the strains of war.

Army Secretary John McHugh told Congress on Wednesday that the service is trying to determine whether the change in diagnosis was isolated or a common practice. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who pressed McHugh at a committee hearing, said the forensic psychiatry unit at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord is being investigated for reversing diagnoses based on the expense of providing care and benefits to members of the military.

"Not only is it damaging for our soldiers, but it also really furthers the stigma for others that are ? whether they're deciding to seek help or not today," Murray said.

Since 2007, more than 40 percent of the cases involving candidates for retirement had been overturned, according to statistics cited by Murray. Of the 1,680 patients screened at Madigan, more than 690 had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The psychiatric team reversed more than 290 of those diagnoses.

"The surgeon general (Lt. Gen. Patricia Horoho) has asked the inspector general of the Army to go and examine all of the similar facilities and locations," McHugh told Murray and members of the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee. "To this point, we don't see any evidence of this being systemic. But as you and I have discussed, we want to make sure that where this was inappropriate, it was an isolated case, and if it were not, to make sure we address it as holistically as we're trying to address it at Madigan."

What Murray referred to as the "invisible wounds of war" have moved to the forefront of the national debate after a shooting spree earlier this month in two Afghan villages that left women and children dead. A suspect in the case, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, 38, is being held in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., while a military investigation continues. Bales, who enlisted in the military after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, did four tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to court records and interviews.

"We have in the military writ large over 50,000 folks in uniform who have had at least four deployments," McHugh said.

Bales was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of the 2nd Infantry Division, which is based at Lewis-McChord. Whether Bales sought treatment at Madigan is unknown.

Army officials said they are committed to strengthening the psychological resilience of its troops and leadership is taking deliberate steps to ensure help is available to soldiers and families dealing with PTSD and other psychological effects of war.

Army officials say soldiers sent to war may be checked up to five times, including before being deployed, during combat, once they return home and six months and a year later. Every soldier returning from deployment completes what the Army calls a Post Deployment Health Assessment and a face-to-face interview with a mental health professional. The Army screens soldiers for depression and PTSD, asking questions to find out about any social stressors, sleep disruption and other problems. Those who are detected as having problems go on to a second phase of screening.

Officials say, however, that no test is considered diagnostically definitive for mental illness in general or PTSD in particular.

More than 134,900 Army personnel were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries between 2000 and 2011. Of those, 75 percent or more than 100,000 were diagnosed as having a mild or regular concussion. Army policy calls for every service member involved in a blast, vehicle crash or a blow to the head to be medically evaluated.

Asked specifically about the Bales' case, McHugh said he was confident in the military justice system.

(AP Photo/Ahmad Jamshid)

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) ? Several Afghans near the villages where an American soldier is alleged to have killed 16 civilians say U.S. troops lined them up against a wall after a roadside bombing and told them that they, and even their children, would pay a price for the attack.

Residents have given similar accounts to both The Associated Press and to Afghan government officials about an alleged bombing in the vicinity, which they said occurred March 7 or 8, and left U.S. troops injured. The residents also said they are convinced that the slayings of the 16 villagers just days later was in retaliation for that bomb.

Although the villagers' accounts could not be independently confirmed, their claim that the shootings by a U.S. soldier may have been payback for a roadside bombing has gained wide currency in the area and has been repeated by politicians testifying about the incident to Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, 38, is suspected of leaving a U.S. base in Panjwai district, entering homes and gunning down nine children, four men and three women before dawn on March 11 in the villages of Balandi and Alkozai. Villagers said the earlier bombing occurred in Mokhoyan, a village about 500 yards (meters) east of the base.

A lawyer for Bales in the United States also suggested that Bales was motivated by a bombing in the area.

However, a spokesman for the U.S. military in Afghanistan declined to give any information on the bombing or even confirm that it occurred, citing the ongoing investigation into the shootings. He also declined to comment on the suggestions that U.S. troops had threatened villagers with retaliation.

"The shooting incident as well as any possibilities that led up to it or might be associated with it will be investigated," Lt. Col. Jimmie Cummings, the spokesman, said Tuesday.

One Mokhoyan resident, Ahmad Shah Khan, told The Associated Press that after the bombing, U.S. soldiers and their Afghan army counterparts arrived in his village and made many of the male villagers stand against a wall.

"It looked like they were going to shoot us, and I was very afraid," Khan said. "Then a NATO soldier said through his translator that even our children will pay for this. Now they have done it and taken their revenge."

Neighbors of Khan gave similar accounts to the AP, and several Afghan officials, including Kandahar lawmaker Abdul Rahim Ayubi, said people in the two villages that were attacked told them the same story.

Mohammad Sarwar Usmani, one of several lawmakers who went to the area, said the Afghan National Army had confirmed to him that an explosion occurred near Mokhoyan on March 8.

On March 13, Afghan soldier Abdul Salam showed an AP reporter the site of a blast that made a large crater in the road in Panjwai district of Kandahar province, where the shootings occurred. The soldier said the explosion occurred March 8. Salam said he helped gather men in the village, and that troops spoke to them, but he was not close enough to hear what they said.

Ghulam Rasool, a tribal elder from Panjwai district of Kandahar province, where the shootings occurred, gave an account of the bombing at a March 16 meeting in Kabul with President Hamid Karzai.

"After the incident, they took the wreckage of their destroyed tank and their wounded people from the area," Rasool said. "After that, they came back to the village nearby the explosion site.

"The soldiers called all the people to come out of their houses and from the mosque," he said.

"The Americans told the villagers, 'A bomb exploded on our vehicle. ... We will get revenge for this incident by killing at least 20 of your people,'" Rasool said. "These are the reasons why we say they took their revenge by killing women and children in the villages."

Bales' lawyer, John Henry Browne, has said that his client was upset because a buddy had lost a leg in an explosion on March 9. It's unclear if the bombing cited by Browne was the same as the one described by the villagers. After a meeting at a military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Browne said Bales told him a roadside bomb blew off the leg of one of his friends two days before the shootings occurred.

Karzai's investigative team is not convinced that one soldier could have single-handedly left his base, walked to the two villages, and carried out the killings and set fire to some of the victims' bodies. The U.S. military has said that even though its investigation is continuing, everything currently points to one shooter.

Villagers in Mokhoyan, meanwhile, are convinced that the shootings were a case of revenge.

Naek Mohammad, who lives in Mokhoyan, told the AP that he heard an explosion March 8 and went outside. As he and a neighbor talked about what happened, he said, two Afghan soldiers ordered them to join other men from the village who had been told to stand against a wall.

"One of the villagers asked what was happening," he said. "The Afghan army soldier told him, 'Shut up and stand there.'"

Mohammad said a U.S. soldier, speaking through a translator, then said: "I know you are all involved and you support the insurgents. So now, you will pay for it ? you and your children will pay for this.'"

None of the villagers could identify the soldier who they said issued the threat.

Description

It isn?t all that uncommon these days to have affair relationships. There are lots of men who have ?another woman? on the side and in fact there are also quite a lot of ladies who have ?another man?. It might seem thrilling to be involved in an affair relationship but is it truly worth losing your marriage or your present long-term relationship over?

Individuals often have affair relationships because they are not happy in their current relationship. If this is the case, then why not finish the current relationship or take steps to improve it. If you are getting an affair or contemplating getting one then put yourself in your partner?s shoes and think about how you?d really feel if they had an affair. Would you think it was ok for your wife or husband to cheat on you?

If you are relationship isn?t all that thrilling or has been having difficulty then speak to your partner and let them know how you are feeling. If you are relationship is some thing you cherish and want to continue then it?s worth trying to function out any problems which you have. Your partner cannot help work out any issues if they don?t know you are unhappy. In the event you love your partner then you owe them the chance to try and make your relationship work rather than looking for happiness with someone else on the side.

If you?re just not pleased with your present partner and know that the relationship will by no means be any better then you should consider ending the relationship instead of getting affair relationships to keep you happy. Ending a relationship is really a big step and 1 which you are attempting to steer clear of but if it is inevitable then you should do it.

Occasionally it could appear easier to remain in an unhappy relationship because you might rely on your partner for support. If your partner will be the primary revenue earner then it could be a struggle financially if you ended the relationship. If this is the case then it may seem easier to continue getting affairs rather than finish this relationship and be on your own. If you?re unhappy then there is no point trying to reconcile and make a relationship work, and financial factors are not sufficient to remain in an unhappy relationship.

Lack of communication is often a big reason why relationships fail when a couple turn out to be unhappy but they don?t understand their partner?s feelings. If you?re partner is not aware that you are unhappy or why you?re unhappy then they can?t do anything to assist the scenario. It may be that your partner is perfectly pleased in the relationship and assumes which you are also and unless you let them know otherwise then they will continue to believe that everything is all correct. If you let them know that you?re not happy then you are able to function together to enhance issues.

When you have tried to improve the relationship and it does not function and you?re still unhappy then it is time the relationship came to an end. It isn?t fair to your partner to leave them hanging on simply because you?re also afraid to take the step and move on although you are not happy. It is also not fair on your partner if you leave them hanging on while you have affair relationships.

If you are perfectly happy inside your present relationship but nonetheless feel compelled to have affair relationships then this is something you may wish to seek counseling for. It is feasible you might have a sex addiction or some deeper emotional issues that have to be dealt with.

Some marriages and relationships survive affairs reasonably easily and others do not. Some partners even agree to permit affairs in their relationship. With this type of relationship they may stay together and share monetary responsibilities and even kids but each are having affairs and that is accepted.

If you feel that you can by no means be happy tied down to one person and have to have affairs then maybe you need someone that?s open to getting this kind of open relationship exactly where you have an agreement which you can each have affairs. This way you?re each doing the same factor and no-one will get hurt.

When you have had an affair and your partner has discovered out, the relationship is not necessarily over. Numerous relationships have survived affairs and in the event you as well as your partner possess a powerful commitment then this affair might not have to be the end of your marriage.

Were you conscious that 95% of individuals fall short in ?Dating? and also Ive discovered a method to resolve this kind of difficulty . They have nothing youve noticed prior been lately openly exposed.

M.I.A. Ropes Anderson Cooper Into Twitter Feud

Rapper tweets, '@AndersonCooper called me a terrorist.'

Another day, another feud. Just days after "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm and reality star Kim Kardashian exchanged words, it seems the always-controversial M.I.A. and journalist/talk-show host Anderson Cooper are going head to head on Twitter themselves.

It all started when the outspoken MC took to Twitter to claim that Cooper had called her a terrorist. "@AndersonCooper called me a terrorist for speaking out , and expressed support for the SLgov when this was happening," she tweeted about the documentary "The Killing Fields," which chronicles the 2009 assault on the Tamil Tigers by the Sri Lankan army. M.I.A. is of Sri Lakan descent, and her father, Arul Pragasam, is a Tamil activist.

She continued, "Someone should make @AndersonCooper watch it / film it and show the world what happens when respected journos get it wrong #killingfields."

He didn't take the accusation lightly when he tweeted in response to her claim, initially asking her "What are you talking about?" before adding, "@miauniverse, you are mistaken. I never called you a terrorist. I don't even know who you are other than the lady who sang at superbowl. @miauniverse. by the way, I defended your finger pointing at the superbowl, so check your facts. I've no idea what youre tweeting about." (He was referring to her middle-finger flash during her Super Bowl performance with Madonna.)

She then tried to explain where she believed he called her a terrorist: "@andersoncooper YOU CALLED ME A LADY TAMIL TIGER when i talked about tamil civilians dying, and u printed a retraction," she said, linking to an editorial on the "AC 360" blog, not written by Cooper. She continued, "@andersoncooper in 2009 u linked to a articl that was written about me with false info. there was a rebuttal on ur 360 site. @andersoncooper 2 months later 1ce every tamil had been silenced including me, the SLGOV carried out the killing of 40, 000 civilians."

Cooper then went on to explain, "@miauniverse you've gone from saying 'I wrote', 'I called you,' to saying my cnn show blog had a link to an article. Big difference. we link to many articles with different viewpoints, and we gave you an opportunity to respond. I can understand your frustration if someone wrote untrue things about you, and I'm glad you were able to respond. ... and the brutal war in SL has not gotten enough coverage in the US, and I know that very upsetting."

In the end, it seems the two were able to settle their differences. The rapper added, "@andersoncooper p.s thank you for defending my finger , please watch Channel4 #killingfields by @jonsnowC4. im glad u understand but please watch #killingfields because this is what i was trying to say."

Oil falls to near $106 after US crude supply jump

LONDON (AP) ? Oil prices fell to near $106 a barrel Wednesday in Europe after a report showed a jump in U.S. crude supplies, a sign demand remains sluggish.

"The worst fears of the last three months of 2011 have not materialized," Singapore central bank managing director Ravi Menon said in a speech Wednesday. "The last six weeks in particular have shown signs that the global economy has avoided imminent disaster."

Going Overboardreducing cholesterol naturally

This has been an aspiration for medicine experts for several years : only one product that combines your five various coronary heart medicinal drugs. Referred to the particular ?polypill,? analysts are convinced that this kind of wonder medicine could chop the pace for cardiac arrest by means of Sixty two per-cent in addition to stroke by means of nearly Forty-eight per-cent.

Nevertheless, for the reason that saying will go, if it sounds also great actually, it likely is definitely.

Experience?

The actual polypill isn?t new. This kind of ?magic bullet? seemed to be the particular brainchild for not one but two Language mentors in Higher education of London with ?03. Some people theorized which will combining a new statin medicine to lessen bad cholesterol, a couple of various drugs to manage blood pressure, along with a small quantity for discomfort towards a person product is needed cut down cardiac arrest. And they also thought

absolutely everyone over the age of Fityfive should bring it since reducing cholesterol naturally a new prevention evaluate.

Appears like one thing from the particular pair of More satisfied Ted, doesn?t it? Nevertheless the following is finished . : the particular polypill at this moment occurs, in addition to hypothesis provides moved to numerous studies.

From the initially test, experts by McMaster Higher education with North america in addition to Saint. John?s Clinical Higher education with Bangalore, examined a new version in the polypill for 2,1000 people in 55 healthcare stores with Indian. A typical years seemed to be Fifty-four, causing all of the particular contributors got a minimum of one danger aspect with regard to cardiac arrest : elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight, having diabetes, as well as using tobacco. 4 hundred in the contributors ingested the particular polypill. The others have been put into seven teams of 2 hundred in addition to granted also specific different parts of the particular product as well as several combos.

When compared to categories granted absolutely no blood pressure drug treatments, those who obtained the particular polypill diminished their systolic blood pressure (the highest multitude) by means of around several systems along with diastolic (the foot multitude) by means of with regards to 6 : much like amounts for individuals that ingested a few of the drugs with no discomfort and also the bad cholesterol medicine. LDL (awful) bad cholesterol lowered 12 per-cent around the polypill versus 31 per-cent with those people making the statin medicine one at a time. Triglycerides lowered 10 % around the combo product as compared to 20 percent by using specific statin take advantage of. None product influenced quantities of High-density lipoprotein, the favorable bad cholesterol. Anti-clotting consequences seemed a similar when using the polypill similar to discomfort on their own.

Reading the agreement

Regardless that medical examiners across Television for computer usually are giddy with excitement within the likelihood of a polypill, the learning outcome was truly very modest. The simple truth is, the particular doses included in this research have been small, and quite a few in the contributors got just reasonably elevated blood pressure to begin with.

Nevertheless how about those who actually are in precarious? Would probably these kinds of small doses also develop a ding into their probability of struggling heart failure as well as stroke? Plus how about unintended effects?

Based on the experts, along side it negative effects of making the lowering cholesterol naturally polypill work just like even worse compared to should the contributors got utilized each one medicine singularly. Nevertheless does which means that it is risk-free although this doesn?t happen increase unintended effects? And not on your life!

Statins are linked to muscular suffering in addition to muscular weak spot. Whilst muscular suffering in addition to muscular weak spot might sound standard plenty of, because of the way statins could behave in your system, they?re potentially dangerous unintended effects for statin take advantage of. Amazing . forgetfulness. Anyone that is taken statin drugs at all : also in small doses : should know about these kinds of unintended effects. Investing: The Lost Luster of Mutual Funds | Target 2025

The nineteenth century was a time when philosopher?s were wondering what exactly was free will. To these thinkers, it was a concept that needed help to achieve what they believed was control over your soul. Identifying the seven deadly sins were a product of this effort, blocking their passage into your life allowed your free will to soar where they thought it ought to go.

But often, in this day and age, the exercise is also pressured by more than those temptations of sloth and greed, wrath, pride, lust, envy and gluttony. It is a social one that makes us look to our peers for guidance in what is right and what is wrong. This is certainly true of investors. And because our free will is actually more bound than footloose, this becomes a conundrum of sorts for those inside their company?s 401(k) plan.

Call them schools of social thought, call them religion, but once an idea makes sense it becomes the must-have. This is certainly true of exchange traded funds, which have very smart people in this investment?s corner. And with good reason that we?ll discuss in a future post. For now, it is the mutual fund, that stalwart investment inside those 401(k) plans that is the focus. Why has it lost its luster? In my opinion, the downturn of several years past had a great deal to do with it but something else changed in those fateful months in 2008. But what?

Mutual funds are what we have to work with at the moment. Although you will begin seeing the addition of ETFs to the mix of options available, and there might even be an all-ETF plan coming to your workplace in the future, the mutual fund will reign supreme inside this bounded world of free will investing. You have the right to choose which investments you want. You have the right to contribute as much as the IRS allows. You have the right to make your retirement possible.

And yet, few of you do what is necessary to achieve the goal, a point in life that might be aptly referred to as ?from the free choices of your working life? to the ?free choices in retirement.? Both are bounded by the amount of money you have. You also have the right to choose how tight those bounds will be.

You will soon find out how much everything costs within this plan. It will be a dry read without a doubt but if it does what it is supposed to do, it will shed some light on how much every dollar you invest in your plan is divvied up amongst the providers of the plan. It might be 1% of $100 or a dollar for every contribution of that amount. You can use this as a benchmark on whether your plan is expensive or not.

But what if it?s higher than one percent? Fleeing is not an option (in the free will scenario). What that one percent actually does is begins to limit your investment options in two ways. All of the funds in your 401(k) will charge a fee of their own. So the higher the plan?s cost, the more higher priced mutual funds as a result becomes unattractive ? if inly from the fee perspective. And for some investors, this removes some of the risk they might have found worth taking. What you are left with, and this is in no way a criticism of this kind of investment, is the index fund.

Index funds are incredibly inexpensive. The fund manager is almost non-existent and the stock (or bonds) in the fund are tracking a predetermined basket of stocks (or bonds). The risk is still there but it is greatly underplayed by the those who are fans of this type of fund. The risk however is, as they say, much less than any actively managed mutual fund available. This is a truism with caveats.

When an index fund is created, the real decision is built on how much of which stock will be bought to mimic the index. An S&P 500 index fund may hold 500 stocks. The question is the proportion or as they refer to it, weighting. The risk is also in the lockstep with that decision. If the market goes up, so does your index fund. If the market goes down, you will also shadow the drop in your index fund. If you index didn?t keep pace withe index it is mimicking, then weighting is to blame or credit. Not all indexes are created the ?same.

In some instances, diversification across a basket of index funds helps offset this sort of risk but if the drop is comprehensive, involving all sorts of regions and investments, this will be of little comfort. So you will pay less for an index but not fully eliminate the risk of owning it.

If your plan costs less than 1%, you have some wiggle room, the opportunity to take on a little more risk than you might have otherwise considered. The smaller more drilled down index funds can provide some of this risk at a lower cost. But some funds who may be benchmarked to the indexes of smaller sized companies and off-shore regions, even some alternative type investments, might seem appealing in small portions.

The best 401(k) is one that mimics your life, the boundaries you have set or have been set for you. You can follow some simple rules here than should reflect the basis of that life.

First: take care of your business. In real life this is paying the bills (on time) and making the money you earn part of a budget. In your 401(k), this means making the matching contribution or 5% if your employer doesn?t match. Both numbers have little or no impact on that fragile take home pay and huge difference in your future.

Second: taking care of your retirement. The brutality of numbers suggests that even if you maximize your contribution, putting as much as the law allows, you will only end up with 75% of your current income in retirement. This simply means that if you can live on 75% of what you make now (ideally socking the rest away for retirement), the transition will be a breeze. You will have lived within that 19th century thinking: your free will will have a budget.

Third: the fun part of the plan. Boring leads to angst and takes away our human-ness. This ignores who we are and the habits we have. If we like to ?cut loose? on occasion, our investments should reflect a little of that habit as well. Your ?bad habits? or the fun things you do take up less than 10% of your time in real life. Your retirement plan should have 10% devoted to something less conservative, something a little more risky.

I see it as a way to keep you engaged (you will check your plan more often) and to learn balance. Keep that ?risky? portion at 10% and the other ninety percent nicely indexed across five or six categories, and you will begin to watch what you are doing in this ?retirement life? more closely.

One final word on the lost luster of mutual funds. They have gotten cheaper since the Great Recession and probably will continue to do so. Some will shine, some will falter and others will follow the markets. We provide the luster and if we fail to use the tools we have, we won?t be able to see our reflection in the shine.

Love is just a phone call away; Long Distance Tips ? El Diamante's ...

by KRISTIN GONZALES & AILEEN GALDAMEZ
Tip Writers

Hey guys! This week we were asked to give tips on long distance relationships. ?Whether you are dating someone from across town or across the country, being in a relationship can be tricky so follow these tips.

1. Communication. ?Take advantage of all of the new technology our world has to offer. ?Use texting, calling, emailing, and Skyping whenever you have the time. ?Even if your schedule is super busy, it takes less than a minute to send a text telling your significant other that you have been thinking about them.

2. Letters. Nothing says romance better than a love letter. ?Make your loved one?s day by writing them a traditional letter bursting with gushy, lovey dovey feelings. ?Unlike the other modes of communication, letters are more personal since it is handwritten, takes more effort, and is something you can cherish forever.

3. Gifts. ?Surprise your lover with a gift! They will not see it coming when you send flowers to their school or work or when they come home to find a package on their doorstep. ?Don?t feel like you have to go all out with something like five dozen roses, simply order a small bouquet of their favorite flowers.

4. Trust. ?Trust is the most essential factor in a long distance relationship. ?If you do not trust him/her then you should not keeping holding on and making yourself miserable with what ifs. ?The constant torment of not believing them will eat you alive, so let loose and trust them until they give you a reason not to.

5. ?Positive. ?Do not look at the negative aspects of your long distance relationship, but the positive to maintain a healthy, fun relationship. ?Being away from your sweetie may not all be bad, for instance, you don?t argue as much, you have more time to spend with family and friends, it is easier to maintain your individuality, and the pleasure of seeing them again after a long absence is something to look forward to.

6. Visits. Sometimes it may be hard to your your lover if your guys are far apart but there?s always holidays, and breaks from work and school. If you?re really invested in the relationship you?ll be willing to shell out the extra cash and time to see him/her.

7. Family support. Since your family is always going to be there, its always best to have their thumbs up on your relationship. They can also lend a helping hand with anything you need to keep you going.

8. Chivalry. Chivalry is still not dead. Make sure that your significant other knows that you?re always thinking of them. Try a surprise visit or sending a nice gift or card just because.

9. Be open. No matter the distance, anything is possible in your relationship. You guys may just make it, and be something great, but that won?t ever happen if you?re stopping yourself. You need to be open to any ideas that your partner may suggest like possibly moving to be closer to each other.

10. Don?t play the blame game. If things don?t end up working out, just remember to be mature and not ?to blame anyone for anything. Sitting there with regret and resentment won?t make you feel any better. The only thing you can do is pick up the pieces and move on.

"We have previously relied mostly on rodent models to study the development and progression of this disease, and although very important insights have been obtained, rodent eyes are much smaller than human eyes and they lack some important retinal structures, so the development of a large animal model of RP is an important step forward in the research of this blinding disease," said Henry J. Kaplan, MD, Evans Professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Louisville, and senior investigator on this study. "This new tool, developed in the miniature swine, should allow important progress in the development of novel treatments for this disease."

The researchers used miniature pigs, which weigh about 150 pounds at maturity, because they are much more manageable than the larger, domestic pig.

The results of the study were published in the January 2012 issue of the journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (http://www.iovs.org/content/53/1/501.full?rss=1). The research was funded by The National Institutes of Health and the National Eye Institute, Research to Prevent Blindness, Discovery Eye Foundation, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the Edward N. and Della L. Thorne Memorial Foundation, the Kentucky Research Challenge Trust Fund, the Kentucky Science and Engineering Foundation, the Moran Eye Center Tiger Team Translational Medicine Award and the University of Louisville Clinical and Translational Science Grant Program.

"Pigs have become an important tool in helping researchers understand many human diseases," said Randall S. Prather, PhD, distinguished professor of reproductive biotechnology in the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and investigator on the study. "Additionally, the miniature swine are much easier to handle than their larger kin and don't present researchers with as many challenges. It's important that we look for these new avenues for research as we continue our search for cures to some of the world's most prevalent diseases."

Researchers used an abnormal gene, RHO P23H, the most common cause of autosomal dominant RP, in which affected individuals have a 50/50 chance of passing the disease on to their children. They inserted the mutant gene into the nucleus of miniature pig embryos, which were then transferred into surrogate mothers for gestation. The offspring expressed the mutant gene that causes RP and their eyes showed classic features of the eye disease. This animal model will now be used to screen the efficacy of various novel therapies for this disease, including stem cell transplantation, drug therapy, gene therapy and the retinal prosthesis.

"We now have a model of RP that mimics human disease in a large animal," Kaplan said. "These pigs will be on the front line of the development of new therapies for this devastating disease."

Retinitis pigmentosa affects about 1 in 4000 Americans and can cause retinal degeneration, which leads to night blindness, loss of peripheral vision, and ultimately total vision loss.
