So, I?ve been asked over 25 times in the last few weeks alone if our life was as truly fun as we portray it to be. To that I answer yes. The question that always follows is, ?Do you have any problems, troubles, at all?? And of course, the answer is YES!!! We have the same issues as everyone else. We are not loaded, we don?t have a trust fund and Dan has to work extremely hard to support 12 people. But, of course people like specifics and drama, so I?ll divulge in a little issue that drives me up the wall and causes me to really hate where we live. Some of you may have neighbor issues, I know the majority of people on Judge Judy do, so this may make you laugh or you may totally relate ? but I?m done, I?m finished fighting it. We are moving over this ridiculousness and hope to completely cleared out right after the baby is born!
As we were leaving Cascade, ID I was actually looking forward to getting home and relaxing and having a little R&R. What a foolish girl I am. Being home is nothing but stressful and aggravating. And not because of the reasons you think. Sure, we have too much stuff, sure the kids are wild and crazy and leave stuff all around the house, sure they eat 24/7 and they fight almost as often. But the real reason for the stress and aggravation is my neighbors. The biggest problem is they just are miserable old people who would be much better served in a retirement home than in a family neighborhood. The second biggest problem is they think they are Aspen quality rich people, but are in reality simply rich Glenwood-ites, which is clearly not even in the same ball park! Their miserable attitudes are constantly affecting our lives ? so much so that we are currently packing up our home in preparation of putting it up on the market just to get away from them. I can?t have peace when every time I see them at the mailboxes or driving up the street I feel homicidal. I can?t even worship because these people attend our Church ? when they feel like going, and as sporadic as it is, when I see them I have sinful thoughts.
Why? How? You seem like such nice people, Susie. You are saying this to yourself, right? Of course you are, because we are super nice and easy to get along with. But these people despise us and have a huge ax to grind because we will not roll over and let them take advantage of us. No-one has ever refused or denied Mike Fattor anything in his entire life, he?s a spoiled, fatter Lord Farquaad. Plain and simple. He is also a coward who uses his ties to the Chief of Police and therefore the entire police squad to his advantage. He has never had the balls to call us and ask us if we would do such and such. He only calls the police from the comfort of his own home and they come running like the owned pigs that they are.
Examples? Let me give you a few. We had a few dogs and were breeding 1-2 litters per year from our home. No-one ever came to visit to look at the puppies because this was our home and I didn?t want curious Nellies coming over. He told City Council and the Post Independent (our local paper) that we had 25 dogs!! Holy cow. What a gross exaggeration. The most dogs we ever had in our home at one time was 4 which proved on it?s own to be too much for me to handle. Mike Fattor and his equally lovely wife sat in a neighbors home in awe of me and my then 7 children and how ?fantastic? it was that we were breeding and that we had a large family. She informed me that her daughter wanted a large family but that ?she better not think I am going to raise them.? But all the while she was chumming up to me, she was plotting with the city attorney, the police chief and her husband to sue us as a kennel facility. $5,000 later we were declared to NOT be a kennel facility and were left alone. Except for the incessant, false and fabricated ?anonymous? calls to the police department that our dogs were at-large and/or barking. Proven to be fabrications because not once have we ever been cited except for ?warnings? that if they ever did hear our dogs we?d be ticketed. OK! Lord Farquaad called me once to tell me he had a dog of ours in his possession that tried to attack his wife. I told him that wasn?t true, that my 2 dogs were right next to me. He said, oh so you want to play this game?? and proceeded to tell me that if he ever saw my dogs again whether being walked by my kids or not he would shoot them. I took this as a threat and for the first time I called and lodged a complaint. The man is looney, he?s crazy! This has been going on for 8 years. They called the police when a few of the kids were playing in the cul-de-sac; the officer, this time, was totally apologetic. I was actually with them and he couldn?t believe a neighbor could be ?so nasty?. Ha ha, welcome to my world.
Fast forward to the present ? he must have just been so bored while we?ve been gone!! I have long suspected that enforcement of the law was not executed equally, but now I have unequivocal proof. The 1% really are above the law! We?ve long been the target of Farquaad and the police Dpartment as false accusation after false accusation has been lodged at us. Cops routinely come to our door in response to his fabricated complaints. You would be shocked at the length the Chief will go to keep old Lord Farquuad happy.
The disparity of the execution of the law became evident when we were visited by Officer Lynn Springer on Wednesday regarding our RV parked in front of our home. We had been home for less than 36 hours and were cleaning and unloading it. She told us a ?neighbor? had called and complained and we couldn?t park there for more than 72 hours. The next day she returned accompanied by Officer Larsen and had a copy of the Ordinance, printed and highlighted by Chief Wilson himself ? he and Farquaad go way back. It reads that we can park our RV adjacent to our dwelling for no more than 72 consecutive hours. Fine, we still hadn?t been there for 72 consecutive hours. But, Officer Larsen informed us it would be towed if it wasn?t moved immediately. So, we moved it.
The outrageous part of this is hours earlier, Farquaad had a trackhoe and a construction trailer dropped off in front of our home and these construction vehicles were in plain sight while the cops stood at our front door. The code reads, ?It shall be unlawful to park construction equipment on any public street? unless you have ?obtained a parking permit, at the time of issuance of a building permit?. I called the police at 7:17 pm because, quite frankly, I?m done being passive, and asked that the construction equipment be moved. Yet, this morning at 10:32 am it?s still there. It seems that the Chief is engaged in selective enforcement, clearly establishing a pattern of conscious discrimination. Go figure. We are clearly the victims of intentional discrimination done with ?an evil eye and an unequal hand? and that will never ever end.
Definitely time to cut our losses and get out. It?s almost as if this happened to remind us that our home is not a comfortable tranquil place. My children are fearful of police, I?m edgy and distrustful of their intentions and this comes out whether they are sincere in their efforts or not. If we leave the kids at home, they lock the door and ask if we think the police will come for any reason. In fact, we had friends over one evening and we were all sitting around the table on our deck and an officer appeared. Cardy turned to our friend and said, ?Do the police always come to your house to??
It?s just one more reason, certainly not the main reason, but just another reason we want out of Glenwood Springs, and are yearning to find true freedom. Freedom from corruption and power and politics and lies. We want to live liberated, where we are free to make our own choices, where we wake in the morning to the sun and the birds and the world at our fingertips.
